Edu-Tech Awards 2016 Pay It Forward Service Scholarship to Delaware Valley Friends School Senior Robin Truitt

Paoli, Pennsylvania - On Friday, June 10th Edu-Tech Academic Solutions presented their 2016 Pay it Forward Service Scholarship to Robin Truitt, a senior at Delaware Valley Friends School. This award, which is offered annually to all graduating seniors enrolled at schools that utilize Edu-Tech range of services, includes a certificate of accomplishment for academic merit and service. In addition, a $1,000 scholarship is awarded to the recipient to assist with the cost of higher education, including tuition, books, or computer related products. While many factors are considered in the selection process for this award, including academic merit and extracurricular activities, the focus of this award is service to school, family and community. The goal is to reward students that have demonstrated a life-long trend of selfless acts of kindness and service toward others with no expectation of payment or reciprocation.

Miss Truitt is the 9th recipient to receive this award from Delaware Valley Friends School. She has demonstrated a deep commitment to service and volunteerism, including her focus on helping others in need not just locally, but around the world. This includes her time as a volunteer at a therapeutic horse riding center in West Chester, assisting with riding lessons for children with mental, or physical disabilities. Miss Truitt is a founding member of her school’s Diversity Club, as well as the Human Rights Club, which help to raise awareness among the students at her school and around the region regarding important issues affecting diversity in today’s society and to help spread awareness about global issues.

In 2014, Miss Truitt joined a team of her fellow students and teachers during a visit to the United Nations to meet with delegates from the UN as part of an initiative to help young girls in India with the non-profit group “Access to Education”. This program raises funds to help purchase and then deliver bicycles to these girls to provide them with the transportation necessary to attend school. Miss Truitt took part in two trips to India to deliver the bicycles and meet with the girls to show her support in 2014 and with her school again this past spring. In addition, Robyn also participated in a service trip to China in 2012 as then as part of the Global Leadership Adventures program on a trip to Thailand for 20 days in 2015 to conduct community service projects as part of the organization’s service-learning program for high school students. All of this, while maintaining an excellent academic record throughout her high school career.

When asked about this award, Bob Sager, President of Edu-Tech remarked, “We have reached a monumental goal this year, as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this scholarship program. Every year, the embers of our award review committee are anxious to receive the applications for this award and read about the commitment to service that students like Robin demonstrate on a daily basis. Despite the rigors of maintaining grades, athletics, part-time jobs, home life, etc. they still find time to share their compassion and knowledge in a variety of ways to reach out and touch the lives of others. That is what this award is all about and the reason why it has become so important to us as an organization. We congratulate Robin on her receipt of this award and wish her the very best on what will most certainly be an exciting and service-centric future!”
