Elderly Chesterbrook Man Tricked Into Handing Over $1500

Police are urging residents to beware.

TREDYFFRIN, PA - An elderly man was tricked into handing over $1,500 to a man he thought was his nephew, according to Tredyffrin police.

The victim received a call on December 7 at about 11:25 a.m. from a man who said he was the victim’s nephew, polie said. The “nephew” was in need of the $1,500 for ”bail money.”

The victim then sent the cash via a MoneyGram order, the report states.

After the transaction, the victim realized it was a scam and their nephew was fine and did not require bail money, according to police.

In most cases, police said, the elderly are targeted.
