Elderly Chesterbrook Man Tricked Into Handing Over $1500

TREDYFFRIN, PA - An elderly man was tricked into handing over $1,500 to a man he thought was his nephew, according to Tredyffrin police.

The victim received a call on December 7 at about 11:25 a.m. from a man who said he was the victim’s nephew, polie said. The “nephew” was in need of the $1,500 for ”bail money.”

The victim then sent the cash via a MoneyGram order, the report states.

After the transaction, the victim realized it was a scam and their nephew was fine and did not require bail money, according to police.

Police are urging residents to be aware of these kinds of scams.

In most cases, police said, the elderly are targeted.

It’s important for residents to verify any such stories with another relative before sending money.
