Hubert JP Schoemaker Classic to Benefit Melmark

On Monday, October 7, 2013, the Philadelphia life sciences and business community will gather for the Eighth Annual Hubert J.P. Schoemaker Classic to benefit Melmark with Title Sponsor, Accenture.  This event is different from most charity golf tournaments in that it’s organized completely by CEOs and other key leaders from the Greater Philadelphia life sciences, law, real estate and business communities.

This year, the Classic Advisory Board proudly welcomes Armando Anido, CEO of NuPathe, Inc. and Conrad J.J. Radcliffe, Associate at Marshall, Dennehey Warner Coleman and Goggin, P.C.  Anido and Radcliffe join a who’s who from this region’s business community who have raised $2.5 for children and adults with special needs served by Melmark.  A full list of advisory board members is below.

The Classic was founded in memory of the late Hubert J.P. Schoemaker, a leader and advocate in the region’s life sciences community and founder of Centocor.  Schoemaker, whose eldest daughter lived at Melmark for 28 years, was well know for giving back to the community, especially to children and adults with special needs.

The Schoemaker Classic benefits Melmark, a non-profit organization based in Berwyn that provides residential, educational, vocational and therapeutic services for children and adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries and other neurological and genetic disorders.  For more information on how to get involved, visit www.schoemakerclassic.com .

The Schoemaker Classic includes a day of golf on one of three premier golf courses: Waynesborough Country Club, St. Davids Golf Club, and Gulph Mills Golf Club.  Golf is followed by a cocktail reception, silent auction and dinner, with a live auction, all at Waynesborough.

Founded in 2006, by Lee Ahrensdorf, President of Ahrensdorf and Associates, the Schoemaker Classic has become the major charity event for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Co-chairs, Shawn P. O’Brien, Founder of AltheRx Pharmaceuticals and Chairman of Cyrano, LLC, Denny Willson, President and CEO of Hsiri Therapeutics, LLC and Jim Eaton, Senior VP of NAI Geis Realty say they are proud to raise funds for Melmark in memory of Hubert Schoemaker.  The three work with an incredibly talented and dedicated network of professionals to organize this event.

“The Schoemaker Classic has significantly impacted the work we do at Melmark,” said Joanne Gillis-Donovan, Ph.D., President and CEO of Melmark.  “With the tools made possible by the proceeds from this event, our staff are able to turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones for the children and adults we serve.  We cannot begin to express our gratitude for the generous support our organization receives from Hubert’s family, friends and colleagues.”

In addition to Title Sponsor, Accenture, other major sponsors of the Schoemaker Classic include:

The ACE Group, Moore Outdoor Rejuvenation (MOR), BioClinica, PA Biotechnology Association, Sodexo, C.
