Former Easttown Supervisor Candidate Seeking Appointment To Board

Brandon Adams was unable to serve after winning in November. Michael Wacey, who earned the third-most votes, says he should be appointed.

EASTTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA – Republican Betsy Fadem earned more than 27 percent of the vote in the 2017 Easttown Township Board of Supervisors race. Democrat Brandon Adams earned more than 24 percent, 24.67 percent to be precise.

But a turn in Adams' professional life prevented him from taking his seat on the board, even before the election was held. His name was included on the ballot in November, despite his inability to serve in the event of his election.

Now, former Democratic candidate Michael Wacey, of Berwyn, who earned 24.35 percent of the vote in November, says his vote count is more than enough reason for Easttown Township to appoint him to the seat Adams leaves vacant.

"I am the next logical choice per the citizens of Easttown," Wacey said in a letter of interest to the supervisors.

The township recently put out a call for residents to apply for the interim supervisor seat, and Wacey said his vote count should mean his appointment is an easy decision to make.

"I am interested, qualified, and ready to serve the residents of Easttown as a Supervisor," he said in a separate letter.

As of Jan. 2, the supervisors had 30 days to appoint a supervisor to fill Adams' seat. The only scheduled supervisors meeting in those 30 days is Monday, Jan. 15.

"The Easttown Democrats believe the Board of Supervisors (all Republican) should appoint Michael Wacey, who is well qualified, an established resident, has attended many township meetings, and is ready and fit to serve," the group said in a statement.

A group called Concerned Easttown Voters launched a Change.org petition that urges voters to sign in support of appointing Wacey to the board.

As of Thursday, Jan. 11, just over 260 people have signed. The goal is 500 signatures.

"We respectfully suggest that the course of action that best reflects the will of Easttown voters (1,396 of whom voted for Michael Wacey) is to appoint him to fill the vacancy on the Easttown Board of Supervisors created by the withdrawal of Brandon Adams," the petition reads.

The seat appointment is a two-year term that expires Dec. 31, 2019.

Should Wacey be appointed, he would be the sole Democrat on a historically Republican-led board of supervisors.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Easttown Township Building at 566 Beaumont Road in Devon.
