HAIR - the original rock musical – opens at Footlighters Theater this Friday, September 8th

Come, break out your love beads and let the Sun Shine In! Join the latest generation of flower children for a 2017 Be-In at Footlighters

HAIR - the original rock musical – opens at Footlighters Theater this Friday, September 8th and runs for four weekends! With book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot, the iconic production won a Grammy for Best Score from an Original Cast Album in 1969, then 40 years later its 2009 revival won both the Tony and the Drama Desk Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

HAIR tells the story of Vietnam-era youths in New York City's East Village who band together as a Tribe. They are a New York contingent of flower children. They question authority and the society in which they live, as well as the war in Asia. They seek to find a new way, they yearn to change the world. The Tribe awkwardly but exuberantly creates their own rites of passage through the confusion around them. With themes of alienation and civil disobedience, HAIR illustrates the ’60s generation’s search for meaning through various “be-ins,” “love-ins” and protests.
