'HAIR' Revial Opens Friday In Berwyn

BERWYN, PA –Baby boomers surely remember the ground-breaking musical "HAIR" from their time as youths. Now, a new generation has a chance to experience the hit show as the Footlighters Theater is hosting a revival of the show on weekends this month and the premier is Friday, Sept. 8

"HAIR" opens Friday, Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. with additional shows Saturday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m.

The production returns to run for three weekends through Saturday, Sept. 30.

Tickets are just $18 per person.

Group discounts are available for parties of 15 or more.

Due to its adult themes, which also helped launch the show into the zeitgeist when it premiered in 1969,

"HAIR" is not recommended for children, the theater said.

The Footlighters Theater production of "HAIR" is directed by Danielle Lachall, with music direction by Marie Anderson Pautler and choreography by Katrina Brown.

HAIR is the original rock musical. With book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot, the production won a Grammy for Best Score from an Original Cast Album in 1969, then 40 years later its 2009 revival won both the Tony and the Drama Desk Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

"HAIR" tells the story of Vietnam-era youths in New York City's East Village who band together as a Tribe. They are a New York contingent of flower children. They question authority and the society in which they live, as well as the war in Asia. They seek to find a new way, they yearn to change the world. The Tribe awkwardly but exuberantly creates their own rites of passage through the confusion around them. With themes of alienation and civil disobedience, "HAIR" illustrates the 60s generation’s search for meaning through various “be-ins,” “love-ins” and protests.
