A man was installing a security system in a Tredyffrin home when he allegedly stole more than $18,000 in jewelry, police say.

TREDYFFRIN, PA -- There are some dangers which a home security system just can't anticipate.

Like the man who actually installs the system.

That's what police said happened recently in Tredyffrin Township when a man allegedly stole more than $18,000 in jewelry while installing the system.

Christopher Reed, 36, of Philadelphia, was charged with unlawful theft and receiving stolen property, Tredyffrin police said.

The incident occurred at a home on the 400 block of Old Eagle School Road in the township's Wayne section.

Police were able to track Reed after it was discovered he had pawned some of the jewelry, police said.

The jewelry was valued at $18,900.
