Identity Thefts, Bad Checks Rampant In Tredyffrin

There have been a series of incidents recently of people pretending to be someone they're not.

TREDYFFRIN, PA -- People are pretending to be someone they’re not.

Multiple cases of check fraud and identity theft have been reported around Tredyffrin Township over the past week.

At least four instances were reported in Berwyn, Wayne, and Paoli, according to Tredyffrin Police.

CHECK FRAUD

1/13/16 at 1749 hours – 400 block of Swedesford Road in Berwyn. The victim reported they discovered several business checks were missing and at least one had been cashed by an unauthorized person. The case is under investigation.

IDENTITY THEFT

1/14/16 at 1230 hours – 100 block of Fennerton Road in Paoli. The victim reported that actor(s) unknown charged $2,000 to their Verizon account without authorization.

BAD CHECKS

1/14/16 at 1300 hours – Robert Cunningham, 30, of Berwyn was charged with Bad Checks after he wrote several checks for payment that were returned for insufficient funds.

IDENTITY THEFT

1/15/16 at 0744 hours – Morgan Lane in Wayne. The victim reported unauthorized transactions on their checking account. The transactions were via POP MONEY which is a system that can be used to transfer money person to person. The case is under investigation.
