Third Annual One Mind Philly Gala Held to Benefit One Mind, Brain Research Organization

A brain that is extraordinarily complex drives our inherent inquisitiveness. But the downside is that our brain, with all its complexity, is the least understood organ of the human body and incredibly susceptible to disease and injury.
More than 1 in 5 people will experience a significant brain disease or injury in their lifetime – and for each of these individuals, countless more are affected – family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, teammates.

Fortunately, we are also defined by our tenacity, ingenuity, and compassion, which leads us to attack problems head-on, seeking solutions to improve life not only for ourselves, but for all of humanity.
In 2013, Berwyn residents Jeanne and Michael Dechiario learned about One Mind, a brain health organization, and were inspired to found One Mind Philly, a local fund-and-awareness raising chapter.

One Mind is dedicated to benefiting all affected by brain illness and injury through fostering fundamental changes that will radically accelerate the development and implementation of improved diagnostics, treatments and cures; while eliminating stigma. One Mind creates global partnerships, public and private, among governmental, corporate, scientific, and philanthropic communities.
The Third Annual One Mind Philly benefit event, “Moroccan Nights”, was held on Saturday, May 9, 2015. The reception included a scientific program with Dr. Vikaas Sohal, from UC San Francisco who spoke about his research focusing on brain electrical rhythm abnormalities, connected with symptoms of schizophrenia and autism. Special guests attending the event included General Peter Chiarelli (Ret.) One Mind’s CEO and former Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and Patrick J. Kennedy, former U.S. Representative and One Mind co-founder.
