'The Perfect Dog' Coming To Berwyn Ahead of National Dog Show

The show stars kids from the Delaware Valley area and will be a great lead in to the National Dog Show Nov. 18 and 19 in Oaks.

BERWYN, PA – With the National Dog coming soon, what better way to get into the dog-focused mindset than attending a theatrical production all about dogs that features local actors?

This weekend, the Footlighters Theater will host a production of "The Perfect Dog" kids' musical.

Shows will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 11. A matinee will show at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12. Additionally, a special encore show will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday. Nov. 16 that will include a talk-back following the performance with "The Perfect Dog" book author and TV star John O'Hurley.

O’Hurley is the Seinfeld ensemble actor who played Elaine’s boss, J. Peterman, and the author of three books about dogs and their unique place in our lives. O’Hurley has become a fixture in American TV homes as host of The National Dog Show Presented by Purina, which is taped at the Expo Center in Oaks for broadcast nationally on NBC Thanksgiving Day.

"The Perfect Dog" is about Sam, a twelve-year old perfectionist, searching for a flawless dog to enter in the town’s dog contest. Unable to find a canine that measures up, Sam must resort to training the family dog, Max, who is less than eager to obey commands. In the end, Sam and Max learn that there is no such thing as perfect, but there is such a thing as being perfect for each other.

  • Sam Brown, played by Aly Brisbois, 11, of Gilbertsville
  • Max, played by John Keefrider, of Skippack
  • Charlie, played by Drew Kampf, 12, of Paoli
  • Mr Brown, played by John D’Alonzo, of Ardmore
  • Mrs. Brown, played by Sandy Yozviak, of Penn Wynne
  • Ideal Ida/Mrs. Hayes, played by Lisa d’Annunzio, of Malvern
  • Party Friend, played by, Reagan Vining, 10, of Boyerton
  • Alex/Party Friend, played by Joey Casey, 11, of Boyerton
  • French Poodle, played by Lisa Bassett, of Collegeville
  • Yorkie, played by Zofia Mecca, 8, of Malvern
  • British Bulldog, played by Pete Rolston, of Berwyn
  • German Shepard, played by Mark Sborini, of King of Prussia

Teri Leahy, of Ardmore is directing, with Exton's Sue Scott serving as a producer.

Musical direction is by Gina Diorio of Wayne.

Alysse Cooper, 15, and Emily Sturz, both of King of Prussia, are the assistant to the director and stage manager, respectively.

Music is by David Abbinanti ("Ghost," "Saturday Night Fever," "Ring of Fire") and the script is by Jill Abbinanti ("Law & Order-SVU," "CSI: NY," "Pan-Am").

The Kennel Club of Philadelphia's National Dog Show is set for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18 and Nov. 19, at the Expo Center in Oaks with tickets available online here

"The Perfect Dog" is one of two fundraising productions in the current season; the 4th annual "Broadway Sings" cabaret will return March 2-4, 2018.

A 501c3 non-profit entity, the all-volunteer theater is committed to producing outstanding productions and to providing the involvement and education of our community in the theatrical arts.
