Reminder: Local Author Giving Dual History Lesson In Tredyffrin Wednesday
Learn about a local battle that nearly ended the American Revolution and an infamous gang that terrorized the area.
The Main Line area and Philadelphia are fonts of history, with key revolutionary battles and crime waves marking the area's history. Local author and historian Bruce Mowday will give a lecture on just that next week in Chesterbrook.
At 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 12 at Duportail House, 297 Adams Drive, Chesterbrook, Mowday will present on the Battle of the Brandywine and the infamous Johnston gang, both of which are subjects of two Mowday books.
Mowday will cover how the U.S. changed on Sept. 11, 1777 when George Washington almost died and Washington’s army almost ceased to exist.

Mowday's book, "September 11, 1777: Washington's Defeat at Brandywine Dooms Philadelphia" goes into detail about the American Revolution battle, which was the largest land battle of the war and the first battle for Lafayette.
Then he will discuss how serial murders Norman, David and Bruce A. Johnston Sr. terrorized Chester County and communities throughout the East Coast for decades.

Mowday covers the Johnston gang in his book "Jailing the Johnston Gang" and how dedicated law enforcement team brought the killers to justice.
Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. before the lectures.
