St. Peter's Players present Four American Shorts
Enjoy local community theatre and join the St. Peter's Players as they take on an oft-forgotten genre- the one act play.

Four American Shorts, presents four one-act plays - a scene-setter, a bittersweet comedy, a fantasy, and a satire - that together span four decades and take us on four different kinds of journeys.
In Marc Connelly’s 1926 “short” The Traveler, an eight- minute tale of a man returning home on the 20th Century Limited out of Grand Central Station, the pleasantries exchanged along the way lead to a rather enigmatic ending. The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden, written by Thornton Wilder in 1921, involves a family’s automobile trip to visit an ailing daughter, and in classic Wilder fashion, the family captures something of the universal joy and sadness of life as they motor along. William Saroyan’s Coming through the Rye, a tender fantasy written in 1942, portrays a journey through time and space. Gore Vidal wrote Visit to a Small Planet as a television play in 1955 at the height of the cold war. Through the journey of a mischievous alien who lands on Earth a hundred years later than he intended, Vidal’s satirical comedy employs a familiar sci-fi scenario to explore not alien but American life.
On the evenings of March 19, 20, and 21 at 7:30 PM, the talented St. Peter’s Players, directed by John Hunter Orr, will present Four American Shorts. If you have seen a Players production you know what a delight it is. If not, this play is a must see!
