Conestoga JV Pioneers Game Highlights
The Conestoga JV Pioneers played their first game of the 2017 season Monday afternoon on Teamer Field against the Owen J. Roberts Wildcats. The Pioneers began the game strong, shutting down the opposing offense on the first drive and blocking OJR's punt. The Stoga offense capitalized quickly in their ensuing drive when quarterback Cam Marcus (#19) hit receiver Brady Carpenter (#17) on 23-yard touchdown pass, putting Stoga up 6-0. The rest of the 1st half, however, did not go Stoga's way, as the team was plagued by turnovers. The defense then shut-out OJR in the 2nd half, led by linebackers Keshawn Moody (#38) and Riley Deshetler (#32), lineman Casey Campbell (#58) and safety Shawn Bacskai (#22). The offense added a second touchdown in the 2nd half with a 10-play drive featuring strong running from Jack Roe (#39) and Liam Kirk (#85), behind the offensive line anchored by Teddy Melchiorre (#79) and Jayce Scarborough-Otto (#74), culminating in a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Christopher McGovern (#8) to receiver Shawn Bacskai. The 2-point conversion was good on a pass from Christopher McGovern to wide receiver Tommy Malito (#82). The Pioneers did not leave the field with a first game win, with a final score of 14 Pioneers – 39 OJR, but they'll be back on Teamer Field this coming Saturday at 11:00 am when they play the Springfield High School Cougars!
