TESD Board To Discuss 2026-27 Budget With Tax Increase Wednesday

The Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board could raise taxes to offset a roughly $15 million deficit in the preliminary proposed 2026-27 budget.

TREDYFFRIN-EASTTOWN, PA — The Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board is meeting Wednesday night to discuss the 2026-2027 Preliminary Budget Proposal.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Conestoga High School, 200 Irish Road in Berwyn. It will also be streamed live and can be viewed on Comcast Channel 14, Verizon Channel 20, and on the district's YouTube channel.

According to documents, the budget features a property tax increase proposal.

The proposed budget would increase the current millage rate from 29.6567 mills to 31.1143 mills. That would result in an average increase of $350 by way of a 4.66 percent tax increase, documents show. The district said its average tax increase over the past five years has been 3.5 percent.

As it stands, the budget features $187.7 million in revenues and $202.7 in expenditures. Without any revenue adjustments, that results in a $14.9 million deficit.

The district is looking to slash that deficit roughly in half by levying more property taxes.

To do so, the district is facing two options for now. One is to filed for exceptions to the Act 1 Index and ultimately pass the preliminary budget by the Feb. 18 state deadline.

The other is to pass a resolution to stay at or below the Act 1 Index of 3.5 percent, and not filing for exceptions to the Act 1 Index. Then, the district will not face that Feb. 18 preliminary budget deadline and can adopt the budget in June.

With the Act 1 Index, the district said it would generate $5.17 million in additional revenue. And, if it secures the Act 1 Index with exceptions, $7.26 more in revenue would be generated, according to documents.

That would leave the budget deficit at $7.66 million.

The district has until Feb. 27 to publish notice of intent to file for exceptions, and the deadline to file for exceptions is March 5.

Officials are planning budget workshops on March 9 and April 13 before adopting the final proposed budget on April 27. Final budget adoption is slated for June 8.
