Tredyffrin Crime Log: Marijuana, The Acme Thief, Phone Scams, And More

A look at some of the bizarre - and frightening - criminal activity in Tredyffrin in June.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department has released a list of recent activity, stretching from June 17 through June 24.

Incidents reported include marijuana possession, serial thefts from Acme, and various IRS scams.

POSSESSION

6/17/15 at 1:30 a.m. – Russell Road in Paoli. While on patrol, officers observed a vehicle parked in a lot after hours and contacted the occupant. While speaking to the occupant, officers detected the odor of marijuana. Michael Peays, 23, of Paoli, PA was charged with Possession of a Small Amount of Marijuana and Related Paraphernalia.

RETAIL THEFT

6/17/15 at 9:24 a.m. – Paoli Acme store. Store management reported that the same female has stolen from the store on more than one occasion. The case is under investigation.

POSSESSION

6/17/15 at 11:02 a.m. – Route 202. During a traffic stop, police detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, Adam Baker, 31, of Flourtown, PA was subsequently charged with Possession of a Small Amount of Marijuana and Related Paraphernalia.

IDENTITY THEFT

6/17/15 at 11:28 a.m. – 500 block of General Scott Road in Wayne. The victim reported that the IRS informed them that someone had fraudulently used their social security number to file an income tax return.

SCAM

6/22/15 at 8 p.m. – Chateau Circles in Wayne. The victim reported they were scammed by “Publishers Clearing House”. The victim received a check in the amount of $7,435.50 for winning a giveaway which they deposited into their bank account. They were then told to get a $6,000.00 money order and send to an individual in Indiana. The victim was told they’d receive a second check of winnings, but never received it. The case is under investigation.

PHONE SCAM

6/23/15 at 7:59 p.m. – Sullivan Road in Wayne. The victim received a voicemail from a subject claiming to be from the IRS. The message stated that if the victim did not contact the IRS, they would be sued.

SCAM

Police urge residents that have been victims of scams or attempted scams to go to the website for the Internet Crime Complaint Center - www.IC3.gov and file a complaint. The IC3 is using the information compiled to identify and combat internet crime. The website has very important information that everyone could benefit from, including consumer alerts.
