Staff Accountant

Tredyffrin Township is seeking to fill the position of Staff Accountant to supervise monthly and year-end closing, including the preparation and/or review of journal entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger activity; and assist in the preparation of monthly and year-end financial reports. The Staff Accountant will assist the Township’s appointed auditors in the conduct of the annual audits and follow up with recommendations for procedural improvements. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintain the Township’s fixed assets in accordance with GASB 34. The Staff Accountant will also assist in the administration of employee pension plans; support staff from the PA Auditor General’s office during their biennial audit. We are looking for a person to establish and maintain a documented system of accounting and internal control procedures and assure that standard procedures are followed. The Staff Accountant will be asked to prepare a variety of AD HOC reports for decisionmaking purposes and to communicate official policies and procedures to staff and the general public. The successful candidate will assist with the development of finance-related policies, ordinances and resolutions and is expected to represent the Township at various conferences and meetings.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or MBA in related field from an accredited college or university (AACSB)
  • Minimum two to five years in progressively responsible accounting positions
  • Must be bondable

This is a full time, non-union, exempt position, the salary range is $60,000 - $70,000 with excellent benefits. EOE. Subject to background/drug screens.

Sanitary Sewer Engineer

Tredyffrin Township seeks a Sanitary Sewer Engineer to be responsible for a variety of the Township’s sanitary sewer system, planning, permitting, reporting, capital projects (system piping, pump stations, SCADA, etc.), oversight of operation and maintenance work in coordination with the Public Works Director.

The sanitary sewer system includes seven pump stations and approximately 150 miles of sanitary sewer lines. The system conveys wastewater to four wastewater treatment plants, all which are located outside of the Township. The annual operating budget of the sewer department is $5.3M. The annual capital budget of the sewer department is $6M.

Work involves but is not limited to:

  • Assists in managing construction projects, schedules and contract administration;
  • Monitors data gathering to ensure completion and conformance to requirements and business needs;
  • Prepares and provides operations performance data and related summaries;
  • Prepares estimates and calculations for process parameters, operations and maintenance costs, and coordinate the efforts of contracted consultants performing said work on behalf of the Township;
  • Coordinates work requirements of wastewater capital improvement and other sewer (sanitary/stormwater) engineering projects with other departments;
  • Oversees or participates in the preparation and submission of various complex technical regulatory reports required by State and Federal agencies (such as Chapter 94 Reports, flow reporting to WWTP’s, etc.);
  • Participates in budget preparation
  • Prepares annual reports in compliance with State and Federal regulations and permits;
  • Responsible for ensuring promptness, correctness and completeness of all reports required to be submitted to the regulatory agencies
  • Monitors and implements local, State and Federal regulatory compliance for assigned programs/activities;
  • Attendance at Board of Supervisors meetings

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited College or University in civil, chemical, mechanical, or environmental engineering or related filed and five years of engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A licensed Professional Engineer is preferred. Must have experience with CAD & GIS software as well as engineering-related equipment. Must have PA Wastewater B-1 and Collection System E-4 and a Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 1 year).

Laborer

General Statement of Duties:

Performs a variety of tasks related to Township property, street, storm sewer, and park maintenance.

Supervision Received:

Works under the supervision of the Foreman or Job Leader Supervision Exercised:

None generally.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education
    • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Experience
    • Minimal maintenance and construction knowledge.
  • Must possess a valid PA Driver’s License (Class C)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to working in close proximity of heavy equipment operations
  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in street, parks, and utility maintenance work.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to observe proper safety regulations and precautions
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions
  • Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions

Responsibilities:

  1. Operates non-CDL Township trucks, including but not limited to pickups and Class 7 dump trucks, plows, walk behind and riding mowers, snow blowers, string trimmer, air compressors, smaller tractors, kettle, etc.
  2. Performs general maintenance and repair to Township property, roads, infrastructure and parks.
  3. Snow removal

  7. Must be available to work scheduled and emergency overtime, as needed.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to walk, lift and bend while carrying heavy objects

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described above represent those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing these duties, the employee regularly works near stationary and moving mechanical equipment under all weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may require the use of hearing protection.
