- Monday, January 19, 1st Annual MLK Day of Service, Volunteers and Items Needed

Hello Community Friends,

Saturday, January 17th: Please join The Upper Mainline Ministerium in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “What would Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. say in this present age?” is the focus of this program. We also want to celebrate the contributions of his life to all people regardless of color, religion and nationality.

Our celebration will begin with an Ecumenical Worship Service Saturday, January 17, 2015, 2:00 PM, hosted by Mt. Zion AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Church. The Guest Speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Mark Kelly-Tyler, Pastor of Mother Bethel AME Church (a National Historic Landmark site and Founding AME Church), Philadelphia. This is the 1st Annual MLK Community Worship experience sponsored by the Upper Mainline Ministerium.

Also, Mt. Zion’s Cafe Friday will be open after the program and will serve its well known and delicious fish dinners. Donation required. In addition, Paoli Hospital will be offering a Health Screening.

Monday, January 19th: 1st Annual MLK Day of Service and volunteer opportunities. From 10:00 AM until completion, we will meet again at Mt. Zion AME Church.

We need the following: Volunteers to help and Items!

For some of our Elderly Citizens:

• Trinity House - Pack and deliver 50 bags of groceries. Need food, including fresh fruit, canned goods, breads, pasta, vegetables, and chicken or turkey. We hope to offer certificates for free oil changes to those with vehicles. Also, we want to provide vacuuming for seniors who are not able to do so.

• Surrey Services for Seniors – Restock shelves with adult depends.

• Nursing Homes – Lap blankets.


For our homeless Veterans and those in need:
• Socks (men and women), shaving cream, razors, gently used clothes, winter coats, gloves and hats, shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothpaste and markers to mark clothes.


For our Children and Youth:
• We are collecting loose change to put in our “Adopt a Pig” Program. All money collected will go to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children to benefit children through pediatric cancer research.


• Art Mobile Project to hang mobiles in the lobby of the Penn Medicine Valley Forge Building in order to brighten the lives of those who come in with medical conditions. Need materials to make the mobiles.
