U.S. 202 Open to Six Lanes in Chester County As Construction Finishes

Great news: construction is finally complete on U.S. 202 in East Whiteland, and six lanes are open.

Construction is finally complete on U.S. 202 in East Whiteland, and six lanes are open, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Wednesday

PennDOT expanded the 2.5 mile stretch to six lanes between Conestoga Road and U.S. 30, completing a huge swath of a project that began in April of 2013.

Officials said crews working overnight for several weeks leading up to the opening, and put the finishing touches on Tuesday night.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of 202 have been widened and rebuilt, PennDOT said. In addition, the Conestoga Road interchange has been reconstructed, bridges have been added over Route 401 and Planebrook Road, and a culvert for the Chester Valley Trail has been added under 202.

Other improvements included an upgraded highway drainage system, sound walls, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components, and new highway signs, officials said.

Crews will continue to work and close lanes at night periodically for the next several weeks to complete miscellaneous construction activities and clean-up operations in the work zone, PennDOT said.

The most recent series of upgrades cost $63 million.
