U.S. 422 Ramp To Close For Two Nights in Valley Forge

Motorists can expect increased congestion in the area.

The U.S. 422 east off-ramp at the First Avenue Interchange in Tredyffrin Township will be closed and detoured on Tuesday, July 5, and Wednesday, July 6, PennDOT announced.

The closure will be in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning for drainage, milling, paving and line striping operations, according to a press release from PennDOT.

PennDOT said that they are widening the U.S. 422 eastbound exit ramp to two lanes to improve travel on the ramp as it approaches the intersection of First Avenue and North Gulph Road.

During the overnight ramp closures, a detour will direct eastbound traffic to exit at Route 23, bear right onto Route 23, and then left at North Gulph Road to get to First Avenue.

The ramp construction is part of a $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail.

Construction began in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020, officials said.

Contractor J.D. Eckman is completing the work, The project is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
