• One last run? (heraldstandard.com) — Uniontown runners turned in strong performances at the A.J. Everhart Uniontown Invitational on their home course at Penn State Fayette, but the meet's future there is uncertain because the campus will close next spring. Local athletes from Uniontown, Laurel Highlands, and Connellsville navigated a muddy, challenging layout, using the race as key preparation for upcoming county and postseason championships.
• In mother's honor, author donates 100 books to Fayette Imagination Library (heraldstandard.com) — Uniontown's influence on early childhood literacy shines through Fayette County's Imagination Library, which was launched by five local businessmen and now serves about 1,000 kids a year. A local author just donated 100 copies of his cookie-themed children's book, and organizers say more donations from residents can help cut the waiting list and get more books into Uniontown-area homes.
• LH student wins statewide America250 essay contest (heraldstandard.com) — A Laurel Highlands High School sophomore from the Uniontown area just won a statewide America250 essay contest by centering his piece on Uniontown native Gen. George C. Marshall and the downtown statue honoring him. His winning essay, along with another from eastern Pennsylvania, will be entered into the Congressional Record after both students met Sen. Dave McCormick in Washington, D.C.
