Boys and girls swimming victorious in tri-meet.

Both the boys and girls swim teams defeated visiting Hatboro-Horsham and Boyertown on Friday at Upper Dublin.

The Upper Dublin boys and girls swim team overpowered their opponents, Boyertown and Hatboro-Horsham, in the tri-meet at Upper Dublin High School on Friday. Both the boys and the girls team came out on top at the end of the meet as Cardinal fans chanted and cheered in the stands above.

The girls thwarted both the Bears and the Hatters early, leaving them with no chance to catch up by the end of the meet. The girls finished with resounding victories of 116-70 over Hatboro and 119-58.5 against Boyertown. The girls won first place in every one of their relays as well as winning second in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing one-two with times, 1:44.27 and 1:45.19.

The girls continued to pull away when Erin Reman swam a 2:18.63 in the 200 individual medley, giving her a first place in the event. But what really showed the Cardinal girls’ strength was the Schmidt-Rudkin one-two performance in the 100 freestyle, receiving a 56.76 and 58.40 respectively.

The boys’ road was a bit rougher but it still lead to two victories with a 94.5-91.5 win over Hatboro and a 123-60 victory over Boyertown. Just like the girls team, the Cardinal boys stole three first places in all three relays, which was the ultimate deciding factor in their wins.

Ashton Leyens started the team out strong with a first in the 200 freestyle, with a time of 1:49.72, and a second place in the 500 freestyle, with a time of 5:04.75. Zach Brach’s key first place win in the 100 freestyle with a 50.60 was also a factor in giving the boys some momentum.

The boys were faced with a difficult task late in the meet, finding themselves losing to Hatboro with only three races left. But with a rallying first and second place win by Bob Bantley and E. Jensen in the 100 backstroke, the boys came together and pulled ahead to win the meet.
