Eco-Expo

A COMMUNITY-WIDE ECO-EXPO will be held at Congregation Beth Or, 239 Welsh Road, Maple Glen, on Sunday, January 22 from 10 AM to 3:30 PM.  This free event will incorporate speakers, exhibitors, educational opportunities, and interactive activities for all ages, with topics and products related to saving energy, reducing carbon footprints and learning about sustainable lifestyles.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER MICHAEL KRANCER, Pennsylvania’s Secretary for Environmental Protection will discuss the Marcellus Shale Initiative, one of the State’s most pressing environmental issues, beginning at 1:30 PM.  

EVENT SPONSORS include Whole Foods, Penn Environment, and Thomas G. Wells Construction.  More than 30 exhibitors specializing in renewable energy, energy audits, electric vehicles/bikes, locally raised food and CSAs (community-supported agriculture), native plants, environmentally sensitive products for the home, and more, will have a presence in the Expo.  An “Ask the Architect” booth will offer environmentally friendly ways to design construction and renovation projects, and  attendees can bring questions and blueprints.

HARD-TO-RECYCLE packing foam (e.g.: Styrofoam) and alkaline batteries will be collected and there will be plenty of activities for young people, including planting seeds, making paper, testing environmental knowledge with an “eco-Jeopardy,” and adding a leaf to the Eco-Pledge Tree.

LISA BROWN, CHAIR OF THE ECO-EXPO AND LEADER OF BETH OR'S GREEN TEAM has arranged for other speakers including Brad Flamm, PhD., faculty at Temple University’s Department of Community and Regional Planning, and Research Fellow in the Center for Sustainable Communities, who will present “From Here to There: The Future of Personal Transportation.”  And Cassandra Kling will be on hand to discuss, “Choosing Solar: Technology and Financing Options that Make Solar a Good Investment for Your Family.”
