GA Sports: Girls Hoops Clinches Inter-Ac Championship

Cruise by Episcopal Academy for 14th straight title.

Clinching a 14th consectutive Inter-Ac Championship girls' basketball proved to be a real team effort for the Lady Patriots of Germantown Academy. The squad used contributions from their bench on both sides of the ball to help down Episcopal Academy 58-43 Friday night.

Germantown displayed poise both offensively and defensively, with Jaryn Garner and Kiernan McCloskey leading the offensive attack. Garner finished with 18 points 11 rebounds, while McCloskey tallied 23 points and 15 rebounds.

It was McCloskey who helped the team to a hot start, shooting 5-7 from the floor in the first half. Garner lead the team down the stretch, making six of her eight attempts in the fourth.  

Dempsey Cooper played strong in a supporting role, dishing out seven assists, with Fran Sweeney chipping in all nine of her points during crunch time.

The Lady Patriots were also boosted from the defensive performance of forwards Melanie Repella and Angela Upright, who held Villanova signee Megan Quinn to 1-6 in the first period and 1-7 in the opening of the second half. Germantown also took advantage of their opportunities from the charity stripe, shooting with 86% efficiency from the line.
