GA Sports: Patriots Remain Perfect in PA with 18-10 Win over Hill School

The Germantown Academy baseball team exploded for 18 runs in seven innings.

The Germantown Academy Baseball team continued its tear through Pennsylvania competition Thursday with an 18-10 win over the Hill School. Outfielder Ryan Dolan lead the Patriots (6-1-1) through the slugfest, racking up five RBIs, three hits, two runs and two walks, while falling just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Dolan also closed for the Patriots and pitch a scoreless seventh.

That made it three wins in as many days for Germantown Academy, who also defeated Roman Catholic 8-4 and Perkiomen 11-5 after returning from a competition in Florida, where they went 3-1-1 against teams from around the county.

This game proved to be a wild one, with the Patriots scoring five runs in the top of the first. However, the Rams would then obliterate whatever sense of a cushion there was, hammering starting pitcher Logan Sneed for six runs in the bottom of the opening frame.

From there the game settled down, as the Hill School knocked in another run in the third before Germantown Academy answered with one in the fourth. Down 7-6 to start the fifth, the GA bats awoke once again as the Patriots knocked in nine runs, their largest single inning tally of the year.

Staked to an eight-run lead, Sneed recorded just one out in the fifth before being relieved by Joe Taylor. Sneed's final line read seven runs on five hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks.

However, Taylor would not fare much better, giving up three runs in the inning to leave the score at 15-10 with two innings to play.

But the Rams would get no closer, as Taylor and Dolan combined for two scoreless innings, while the Patriots tacked on three more runs to make the final score 18-10.

Infielder Michael Fitzgerald also had a productive day for the Patriots, tallying three RBIs on three hits. The score could have been even greater had GA not left 16 men on base.

Germantown Academy continues its busy day Thursday with a home match-up against Archbishop Carroll.
