GA Sports Round-Up: Girls Hoops and Volleyball
The girls basketball team dropped a pair of tough games while volleyball improved to 7-0 Inter-Ac with a win over Shipley.

Girls’ Basketball
The Hill School visited Germantown Academy on Wednesday and stormed past the Patriots to win, 59-34. Deanna Mayza and Claire Maree O'Bryan scored 25 and 24 points, respectively, to lead the Blues.
The Patriots were led by senior guard Jaryn Garner '12, who netted 18 points. Junior forward Kiernan McCloskey '13 added six points while junior Natalie Toner '13 and freshman Olivia Gorman '15 each scored three points. Senior Sarah Armstrong '12 and junior Dempsey Cooper '13 tallied two points apiece.

The Patriots also fell to Bishop McNamara of suburban Washington D.C., 62-55, in Sunday's Blue Chip Showcase at Archbishop Carroll. Leading by eight points in the final minutes of play, the Mustangs rallied and forced overtime. In the extra quarter, GA turnovers allowed the Mustangs to run away with the win.
Senior guard Jaryn Garner '12 powered GA's offense with 21 points. Junior forward/guard Kiernan McCloskey '13 added 12 points while junior Dempsey Cooper '13 gave GA nine points and Natalie Toner '13 chipped in with six points. Sophomore Megan McCloskey '14 scored four points. Junior Fran Sweeney '13 tallied three points.

The Patriots went into the break with a 25-19 advantage and led 37-31 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Patriots battled past a tough Shipley team on Tuesday afternoon with a pivotal 3-2 win. GA won 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 25-12, 18-16.
Junior Katie Tanner racked up 15 kills to lead GA past Shipley. Senior Kelli Stack '12 played great defense and had two crucial serves to help the Patriots seal the win at the end of the game. GA received very strong serving from senior Liz Boetefuer '12 and solid defense from fellow senior Natalie Cunningham '12. Sophomore Kate Horvat '14 had two big blocks in the final set while sophomore teammate Shannon Robins '14 kept the offense moving with 38 assists.
With the win, the Patriots improved to 7-0 in league play.
