Girls’ Lacrosse: UD Falls to Tough Conestoga Team

The Flying Cardinals could not stop a potent Conestoga offense in a 12-6 loss.

Monday was simply not the Lady Cardinals’ day. In an afternoon non-league matchup between Upper Dublin and Conestoga, the tone was set early as the Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game.

The Cardinals seemed out of sync early on, committing turnovers that gave their opponent extra opportunities at net. The Pioneers continued to dominate possession, but goals by Upper Dublin’s Taylor D’Ginto, Kelly Cross and Michele DeVincent kept the Cardinals within three, bringing the score to 6-3 at the end of the first half.

Conestoga struck first once again in the second half, but Brooke Callahan answered right back with a goal of her own. The Pioneers then proceeded to score four straight goals, giving Upper Dublin little chance at a comeback. Meghan McGillis and Taylor Lawlor led the way for Conestoga, punching in five and three goals, respectively.

By the time Kelly Cross scored two goals inside the one-minute mark of the second half, Conestoga had secured a 12-6 win over the league champion Lady Cardinals.

The Suburban One American Conference champions continue play Wednesday, May 11, against Upper Merion at 7 p.m., when they will honor their seniors.
