Golf: Cardinals Edge Plymouth Whitemarsh by Four Strokes

Kieserman shoots a 40 to seal victory.

The golf team (3-1) continued their early season hot steak Wednesday, emerging victorious against a veteran-laden Plymouth-Whitemarsh squad on the opposition's home turf.

According to coach David Koch, the 205-209 victory at the Ace Club puts the Cardinals right in the mix for an American Conference title, in what has become a wide open race early in the season.

"We once again were very consistent against a well seasoned team," said Koch. "We stayed focused and played extremely well."

Consistency has become a keyword for the Cardinals in their first four matches, walking off the links with three victories. Coaches and players point to low scores, despite a lack of birdies, as evidence that they are shooting for par on every hole.

"I want to go the whole season without a birdie and still shoot consistently," laughed captain Jon Bebey.

The team is also buoyed by Sarah Easton, who coach Koch says is proving the competition wrong.

"The opposition has learned that Sarah is a strong force on this team," Koch said. "She is unflappable and so consistent-- her 42 today was really needed."

The Cardinals left the links victorious against Plymouth-Whitemarsh by finishing strong in the 9-hole competition . Junior Andrew Carber was three over after the first two holes, but got back on track on with a key birdie on a difficult par 5. Coach Koch also touted the play of Jake Kieserman.

"The match was anybody's to win, and Kieserman chipped in for birdie on the 186 yard par 3," Koch said. "At that time he was one over par--his steady play brought home the victory.

Senior Liam Duke rounded out the scoring with a 43.

The Cardinals' busy season continues when they travel to play Upper Moreland at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, and then play Cheltenham at home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
