Pairings for District 1 basketball tournaments announced

Yesterday, the brackets and seeding for the boys' and girls’ District 1 AAAA basketball tournaments were announced, and the Flying Cardinals appear in both.

The girls team had a fantastic 19-3 (10-2) regular season, and was thus rewarded with the seventh seed in the 32-team field. They will first take on 26^th-seeded Coatesville (15-7, 7-5) Saturday, Feb. 19, and play at home, thanks to the higher seed.

Should they win, the girls will host another home game against either 10^th-seeded Council Rock South or 23^rd-seeded Unionville. Last year, District One sent nine teams to the state tournament. Check out the girls' full bracket.

The boys' team, whose playoff hopes were in doubt after dropping their final game of the regular season to Wissahickon to finish with an 11-11 (3-9) record, were selected and received the 25^th seed. They will take on eighth-seeded North Penn (14-3, 8-2) away Friday, Feb. 18.  Should they pull the upset, they’ll square off against either ninth-seeded Bensalem or 24^th-seeded Strath Haven.
