Scouts from Troop 542 Earn National High Adventure Awards
Boy Scout Troop Adventure Awards

Boy Scouts from Troop 542 in Maple Glen recently received national awards from Boy Scouts of America for attending multiple Boy Scout High Adventure programs. The Scouts received either the Triple Crown of National High Adventure or the Grand Slam of National High Adventure, symbolized by special patches.
The Charles L. Sommers Alumni Association, Inc., created the Triple Crown of National High Adventure award in 1995 to recognize Scouts who have attended three Boy Scout High Adventure bases. In 2014, the Association created the Grand Slam of National High Adventure to recognize Scouts who have attended four High Adventure programs. The Boy Scouts of America’s National High Adventure Bases are: Northern Tier High Adventure Bases in Ely, Minn.; Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, N.M.; Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, Islamorada, Fl., and Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base at The Summit, Mt. Hope, W.Va.
Earning the Triple Crown High Adventure Award are Christian Allemang, Brendan Fensler, Viet Tran, Mark Allemang, Matt Leung and Donald Scott IV. Earning the Grand Slam High Adventure Award are Tom Abraham, Charlee Cheng, Justin Fernsler, Sam Hotchkiss, Glen Valentine, Arland Hotchkiss, Nam Tran, Wyatt Whitney and Donald Scott III.

To date, 17 members of Troop 542 have earned Triple Crown or Grand Slam Awards. Boy Scout Troop 542 has more than 100 youth members. Since its inception in 1969, more than 140 Scouts from Troop 542 have earned the rank of Eagle.
