Soundslide: UD Boys Volleyball Falls to Souderton

Despite marked improvement in overall play, the Cardinals fell to a tough Souderton team at home on Monday.

The boys' volleyball team is still looking for its first win of the season after falling to Souderton (5-1) Monday. Despite vastly improved play, the Cardinal and Gray lost the first two games by extremely close margins, and appeared to have little left in the tank as the visiting Indians rolled through the final frame to win the match 3-0.

The Cardinals found themselves up 9-5 early in the first game, and used a second run to take an 18-13 lead. However, the Indians would respond with a 10-2 run of their own to take the lead at 23-20. Upper Dublin would score twice more, but ultimately lose the game 25-22.

In the second game, the Cardinals would fall behind early as Souderton jumped out to an 8-4 lead. The home team battled to keep it close, matching runs to tie the game at 10-10 and 13-13, eventually finding themselves down one at 19-20. However, the visitors again came through in the clutch, finishing strong to win the game 25-21.

The Cardinals suffered from a number of unforced errors, as eight of their serves found the net, giving Souderton a point and the ball back.

Upper Dublin appeared gassed in the final game, as the Indians jumped out to 8-5 lead and used a 9-1 run to take a 17-6 lead. The Cardinals would get no closer the rest of the game, and fell 25-12 to lose the match.

The team next takes the court Wednesday at Central Bucks South for a 7 p.m. game.
