Tennis: Cardinals Shine in 6-1 Victory over CB West

On Wednesday, March 30, the Upper Dublin boys tennis team dispatched Suburban One foe Central Bucks West by a score of 6-1.

The Cardinals nearly swept the visiting Bucks, losing only in first singles when Upper Dublin’s Hari Murali was defeated 1-6, 6-6 (7-5) by West’s Jon Topping.

The Cardinal and Gray would go on to win second and third singles, and all four double matches. The most competitive match came in second doubles, which came down to a tie-breaker in the third set after the squads split the first two. However, the Cardinals’ Adam Chernow and Jason Britchkow came out on top, taking the rally 7-4 to win the match.

Afterward, head coach Dottie Borkowski lauded the boys’ efforts, calling it one of the better performances she’s seen from the squad.

“They did incredibly well—this team beat us last year 4-3,” said Borkowski. “They played exactly where they should be playing right now.”

Asked which performances particularly impressed her, Borkowski had a tough time choosing.

“They have all reached a point where they’re really starting to gel, “ Borkowski said. “I mean, if you’re around tennis long enough, there’s a certain point in which everything starts to come together, and today, for this team, this was the time.”

The boys’ match against Upper Merion Thursday, March 31, was postponed due to rain. The Cardinals are next scheduled to play at Norristown on April 7.
