UDHS Students Dedicate Stars to Those Who Served
Veterans Day inspires a week of activities

The corner of the Upper Dublin High School Cafeteria was a hub of activity following Jessica Jones’ announcement. Jones teaches The Rise of Modern America and, along with UDHS secretary Robin Griffin, organized a week of events to honor veterans. Cafeteria visitors dedicated stars to family and friends who served and included names, branch of military and other vital information. The stars --- more than 150 were completed---were incorporated into the military showcase on display in the UDHS Social Studies Alcove.
Students honored parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, other relatives and family friends. Some shared stories that were passed down and became part of their family’s history. Others were inspired to gather more information and vowed to return and add additional details to the star.
This is the second year that Jones planned a week of activities for students. She encourages students to discover their family’s connection to service to country to raise their awareness and deepen their understanding and appreciation of the contributions and sacrifices military personnel make for their county.

In addition to the military showcase, Jones organized a coin collection to benefit the USO, an awareness campaign that provided information to students during morning announcements and a supply collection for troops in Afghanistan. The week concluded with presentations by veterans Joe Morrison, Terrence Fenningham and David Toms and Gold Star father Bob Craven.
