Weekend Sports Round-up: Lady Cardinals Fall to Cheltenham, DiMuzio Exits Regionals
The Lady Cardinals will now advance to states, while DiMuzio will have to settle for a career as one of the most highly decorated wrestlers in Upper Dublin history.
While the Upper Dublin swim teams had a banner district tournament at La Salle University over the weekend, Cardinals elsewhere did not reach the same success.
The Lady Cardinals basketball squad, playing for fifth place in District 1 after defeating Boyertown in a close consolation game last week, visited Cheltenham.
The meeting would be the teams’ third of the season, and the Panthers have proven to be Upper Dublin’s kryptonite as they defeated the team 56-50 at the Nest Dec. 17, 2010, and 50-48 at Cheltenham Jan. 20.

The girls will now play District II champion Abington Heights in the PIAA state tournament, tipping off at 6 p.m. Friday March 11, at Marywood University in Scranton.
The wrestling season is officially over, as Upper Dublin’s last remaining grappler, Nick DiMuzio, was eliminated from the regional tournament only two steps away from qualifying for the state competition.
DiMuzio started off his tournament on the right foot, taking down sophomore Adam Moser of Owen J. Roberts 7-6 in the preliminary round. However, he then was paired with second-seeded Scott Wolfinger of Quakertown, who pinned the Cardinal in 4:13. Wolfinger would go on to finish second in the tournament, narrowly losing to Joe Mazzi of LaSalle, 4-3.
However, DiMuzio's hopes were still alive in the consolation round. He advanced one further with his defeat of Anthony Prisco of Bensalem by a score of 13-3, but fell to eventual fifth-place finisher Eric Lee of Haverford. DiMuzio exited the tournament 2-2, a pair of victories short of qualifying for the state tournament.
DiMuzio, a senior, finished with a 33-9 record on the year, giving him 115 all-time wins, the most in Upper Dublin wrestling history.
