28th Annual National Night Out planned for Aug. 2
The 2011 National Night Out community event will take place at 6 p.m. at Lone Lane Park.

Celebrate this year’s National Night Out with the on Tuesday, August 2 at 6pm. The event takes place at and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
There will be K-9 demonstrations, handouts on identity theft prevention and internet safety for parents as well as other crime prevention topics discussed.
The Lehigh County SWAT vehicle and the brand new Berks-Lehigh Regional Police 2012 patrol Dodge Charger will both be on display.

Citizens from the Upper Macungie Crime Watch, Upper Macungie Township Citizens Emergency Response Team and members of the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department will be present though out the event.
It’s planned as a night of fun reminding everyone that the community that cares takes a “Bite Out of Crime”. Traditionally, outside lights and porch vigils are held along with citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, safety fairs and more.

The campaign is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anticrime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirits and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Over 37 million people participated last year worldwide. The 2010 National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
