160 Students Participate in 2-day Envirothon Competition

Parkland High School won top honors in the 25th Annual Lehigh County High School Envirothon on Tuesday, April 30th at the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary in Emmaus.

Hosted by the Lehigh County Conservation District and Wildlands Conservancy, the event was the local qualifying round in a national competition testing high school students on their knowledge of environmental issues.

After studying all year about selected topics, teams of five students from each of 15 Lehigh County high schools rotated through five testing stations in the areas of Aquatics, Soils, Forestry, Wildlife and Grazing Livestock for Improved Herd Health and Land Management.

The Parkland High School team will compete at the State Envirothon on May 21-22 at Juniata College in Huntingdon
County, with the state winner going to the national event at Montana State University in August.

In addition to Parkland, participating high schools included Allentown Central Catholic, Catasauqua, Emmaus, Northern Lehigh, Southern Lehigh, Whitehall, and William Allen.

The middle school Envirothon will take place on Thursday, May 2 at the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, featuring learning
activities for the youngsters.
