The Lehigh Valley Rollergirls (LVRG) will open their 2013 season with the Pink vs. Black Intraleague bout 6 p.m. Saturday at the Independence Family Fun Center in Schnecksville.
This bout features LVRG fielding two separate teams, making it a great opportunity for fans to see all of their favorite skaters on the track.
When asked about the makeup of the teams LVRG Head Coach Michele “Rose Beef” Dolgos said, “The lineups for both teams are evenly matched with two strong sides of veteran LVRG blockers and jammers. I expect this to be a very close and exciting bout for the fans.”
The pink team is being led by Hissy Fits captain Lynda “Lin Diesel” Searfass and the black team is under the leadership of Stacey “Wayward Stay” Emenecker, captain of the Special Vixens Unit.
This will also be the first time that LVRG will be skating under the new “no minor penalties” rule set established by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association for the 2013 season.
According to Wayward Stay, “The new rules are going to create a more exciting game for people to watch. The faster starts will eliminate the stalling tactics used previously and make sure the fans get all the action they expect at a derby bout.”
A portion of the proceeds from the bout will be donated to the Macungie Ambulance Corps.
Independence Family Fun Center is located at 4345 Independence Drive, Schnecksville.
About LVRG- With the revival of women’s roller derby sweeping the nation, the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls were established in January 2006 with the hope of bringing the thrill and excitement of the game to the Valley. The Lehigh Valley Rollergirls are the area’s only women’s flat track roller derby league, and have rapidly grown from just a handful of women meeting at open skates to full WFTDA members with two currently competing travel teams. About WFTDA- The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association is the international governing body for the sport of women’s flat track roller derby and a membership organization for leagues to collaborate and network. About the Macungie Ambulance Corps- Macungie Ambulance Corps is a 501c3 non-profit
organization. In addition to responding to over 3,000 emergency calls annually, they have an active Community Outreach and Education Division. One of the main focuses of their Community Outreach and Education is Community CPR and Public Access Defibrillation programs. They offer free program support for business, communities, and organizations who purchase an AED for public use. They also assist the entity with routine checks of the device, and ongoing training for expected users.
