Meet Leroy and Elle, two local animals in need of your help

Each week Upper Macungie Patch features animals in need of homes through local animal welfare groups.

This week, we bring you a twist: Two farm animals that have permanent homes but are in need of sponsorship. Both animals reside at . If you’re not able to provide an animal with a permanent home, perhaps assisting with food and medical expenses is a consideration.

Leroy is a 13-year-old Vietnamese pot-bellied pig with a great personality but numerous medical conditions. The former hall monitor for California University was adopted when his owner graduated and no longer had need for a pig.  In addition to cognitive dementia, Leroy has terrible arthritis, is going blind, and has a seizure disorder, just to name a few of his challenges. As a result, he is on very expensive medications. Leroy is loved by everyone at The Gress Mountain Ranch and provides comfort and assistance to those who visit and volunteer. Sponsorship or a donation in his name will help defer the cost of Leroy’s care.

This former Amish plow horse is 26-1/2 years of age. Due to her problems with walking, she was set to go to a slaughterhouse when she was rescued over four years ago.  This poor old gal suffers from every problem known to a horse. In addition to cataracts in both eyes, Elle has arthritis, a history of choke and colic, and requires many supplements and vitamins.  The retired draft horse continues to bring joy to all who encounter her on the ranch, but she needs your help to stay comfortable in her end of life cycle at her retirement home.
