Lecture: Hasia Diner on 'Jewish Peddlers in America'

One in a community-wide series on "Jews, Money and Capitalism"

Historian Hasia Diner will present, “Jewish Peddlers in America,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 in Miller Forum, Moyer Hall.  

Diner is the Paul and Sylvia Steinberg Professor of American Jewish History at New York University, with joint appointment in the department of history and the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies. She is also director of the Goldstein Goren Center for American Jewish History.

Her most recent book, “We Remember with Reverence and Love: American Jews and the Myth of Silence After the Holocaust” (2009), won the National Jewish Book Award in the category of American Jewish Studies. 

The programs in the series are an extension of Muhlenberg College’s Jewish studies major that will take effect in fall of 2013. The college has had a Jewish studies minor since 1988. The program is the first new major to be added to the curriculum since film studies and finance in 2006.

“Jews, Money and Capitalism” is sponsored by the Legacy Heritage Jewish Studies Project, directed by the Association for Jewish Studies (AJS).

The event is co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley, the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding, and Muhlenberg College departments and local Jewish institutions.

The lecture is open to the public.
