Family-Oriented Events Slated By Upper Macungie Rec Board
Plans are in the works for family fishing, Movies in the Park and a run/walk. Park pavilion rental fees were also announced.
The Upper Macungie Recreation Board announced its plans for a series of family-oriented events this year throughout the township at its Feb. 24 meeting.
The annual Family Fishing Program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, will be held on Saturday, May 28 and Saturday, Aug. 6. The event at will last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., including time for instruction about catch-and-release fishing.
Family Fishing is limited to residents only and participants must be at least eight years old. Children must be accompanied by adults. The Fish and Boat Commission will provide tackle and fishing equipment, but participants must bring their own bait.

This summer’s Movies in the Park series will be as follows:

All movies begin around dusk.
Recreation Board members Chuck Thomas and Rich Kilgore have begun to organize the Upper Macungie Run/Walk for Parks, including a 5K and Fun Run. The event would begin and end in Lone Lane Park.
Thomas and Kilgore originally planned the event to take place in July. However, board member April Navarra said that would leave insufficient time to get sponsors and handle all the details for the event.
So the run/walk might take place instead in September or October.
In other business on Feb. 24, the Recreation Board approved new fees for park pavilions in Upper Macungie.
The fees are as follows:
-- , $100 for residents, $150 for non-residents with a $100 deposit.
-- Grange Road Park, $100 for residents, $150 for non-residents with a $100 deposit.
-- , $125 for residents, $175 for non-residents with a $100 deposit.
-- , $50 for residents, $100 for non-residents with a $100 deposit.
-- , $100 for residents, $150 for non-residents with a $100 deposit.
Also, up until March 1 of each calendar year, only residents are allowed to reserve pavilions. There will be no deposit return on cancellations less than 30 days in advance. The deposit will be returned after an event with no damage.
