Tilghman Street Construction to End Sooner Than Later

The work for the Tilghman Street bridge project is , but, Stephen Sartori, a PennDOT contractor, said the work that will force the closure of Tilghman won't happen until April 5.

Beginning Monday, March 12, motorists should expect off-peak (weekday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) lane restrictions on east or west for approximately one month. Then the road will be closed for work to replace the deck and beams on the .

Sartori also said that the project was originally slated to last for two years, but only take about five-and-a-half months, weather permitting.

He said the project is now scheduled for completion on Aug. 26.

"The sooner, the better," said Supervisor Kathy Rader. "Tilghman Street is the detour for Route 78, so when there's an accident, that's going to be a traffic nightmare."
