Twin Ponds Road Development Plans Move Forward

Upper Macungie supervisors approve preliminary plan for town houses, single-family homes on Twin Ponds Road.

approved a for a development of townhouses and single-family homes on Twin Ponds Road.

The developers, Heritage-Twin Ponds II, propose to construct 63 townhouses and 22 single-family homes on the property, formerly known as the Dunbar Tract. A 2007 plan for the development had called for 53 single-family homes and fewer townshouses.

Township supervisors voted unanimously last week to OK the preliminary plan known as Highgate Phase III after being assured that concerns about stormwater and how to put sidewalks on one narrow stretch of the road were addressed.

“Essentially they’d be widening the shoulder to provide for sidewalks,” said Dean Haas, township engineer.

At a township Planning Commission meeting in May, some neighbors of the tract said they were concerned that more townhouses would mean more traffic.

But Scott Stenroos, the township’s traffic engineer, said the best available expertise on the subject says that townhouses generate about half the traffic that single-family homes do. So the new plan shouldn’t result in more traffic than the 2007 plan would have, he said.
