4 Pa. Driving Laws You May Not Know About

It’s Highway Safety Law Awareness Week this week in Pennsylvania and officials are using it as an opportunity to place focus on four driving laws that are sometimes overlooked.

Here are four laws that officials from PennDOT want to be sure local drivers follow when they’re out on the roads:

• “Keep Right Pass Left” — Pass only on the left and don’t stay in the left lane for travel
• The “Steer Clear Law” — Drivers should move over or slow down for police, emergency responders, road crews and tow-truck operators
• “Headlights on, Wipers On” — All vehicles should have their headlights and wipers on when operating in inclement weather
• “Clear vehicles of ice and snow” — Cars should be fully clear before winter travel. If snow or ice is dislodged or falls from a moving vehicle and strikes another vehicle or pedestrian causing death or injury, the operator of the source vehicle is subject to a fine of $200 to $1,000 for each offense

“We are constantly working to create awareness for drivers of rules that keep them, fellow drivers and our road workers safe,” Acting Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Leslie S. Richards said. ”Through education and outreach, we will use this week to elevate the importance of laws that drivers may overlook.”
