WILLOW GROVE, PA — For years, the Willow Grove Shopping Center was a retail fixture.
Just across Welsh Road from the Willow Grove Park Mall, the shopping center featured a Barnes and Noble bookstore, Five Below, Marshalls, Modell's Sporting Goods, and other retailers.
But now it's being transformed into a $105 million mixed-use complex that will include a six-story apartment building and 35,000 square feet of retail space.
Right now, the shopping center is undergoing a demolition of 130,000 square feet of obsolete retail space.
Federal Realty Investment Trust said the site — located near the busy intersection of Easton Road and York Road — is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation to revamp the physical character of the property to include a new-to-market grocery concept and the addition of 18,000 square feet of new small shop space.
The Barnes and Noble bookstore was replaced by an Amazon Fresh, but the grocery store closed after a year due to financial struggles from the company.
