Dresher's Betsy Clayton Inspires at MossRehab's 'All About Art'

All About Art at MossRehab (Elkins Park), the annual international juried exhibition and sale of art and fine crafts by artists with disabilities, opened on April 30 and will run until July 1.  This free and open to the public exhibition features the creative work of Dresher’s own Betsy Clayton. Betsy’s perseverance of her artistic passion while suffering from macular degeneration is truly an inspiration.

Betsy studied at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art.  For over 30 years she has been legally blind from macular degeneration. She is a regular exhibitor at several local shows for sculptors with visual impairments, including in the Allens Lane Art Center and the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Form in Art.  Clayton has participated in the National Exhibit of Blind Artists since 1995. She exhibited in Extraordinary Art: Beyond the Museum invitational show at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in 1998, and was awarded a scholarship to study there from the Academy’s Women’s Committee.

The exhibition showcases works by 86 artists and fine craft artisans. In addition to local artists, there are exhibitors from throughout the United States, Canada and France. Mediums include oil and watercolor painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, needlepoint and jewelry.  Prices range from $12 to $3,400, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the MossRehab Diagnostic Laboratories.
