On Saturday November 22, 2014 at 7:30 pm The Choristers, a 65-70 voice auditioned civic concert choir and one of the premier concert choirs in the Philadelphia suburbs, will present The Animals A’ Comin’ -- choral music about animals all sorts of critters -- birds, flies, cats, mice, crickets, horses, pigs, kangaroos, and more! This is a family-friendly concert that has something for everyone!
Serious repertoire includes: Ivor Davies’ Prayers from the Ark – (sacred songs, perfect for Thanksgiving!), Samuel Barber’s The Monk and His Cat, Charles Stanford’s The Blue Bird, Johannes Brahms’ Lerchengesang (Song of the Lark), and from Six Chansons by Paul Hindemith, two songs, “La Biche” (The Doe) and “Un Cygne” (A Swan).
Humorous and even downright hilarious works include: Duetto Buffo di Due Gatti (“humorous duet for two cats”) in the style of Rossini sung by soloists Carole Latimer (soprano) and Suzanne DuPlantis (mezzo-soprano), a piece entitled, De Animals A’ Comin’, (arr. Bartholomew, written for men’s voices) which gave birth to the title of the concert, Eric Whitacre’s Animal Crackers, and from Handel’s Israel in Egypt “And There Came All Manner of Flies”. Guitarist Christopher Bohn will perform the traditional folk song The Fox and will accompany the choir for Lennon/McCartney’s Blackbird arranged for women’s voices. If that were not enough, images of the animals will be projected onto two large screens to provide a multi-media experience.
The concert will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446. Tickets may be purchased in the church office, via the choir’s website at www.TheChoristers.org, or at the door. Discounted advance (full price at the door) tickets prices are as follows: Adult $20 ($25), Senior Citizen: $15 ($20), College/High School Students: $5 ($10). Children under high school age are admitted FREE.
