Celebrate 'Take your Child to the Library Day' at the Union Library of Hatboro

The Union Library Company of Hatboro will celebrate "Take Your Child to the Library Day" on Saturday, February 7th 2015.

ake Your Child to the Library Day is an international initiative that encourages families everywhere to take their children to visit their local library. Nadine Lipman, a children’s librarian in Waterford, Connecticut, came up with the idea for Take Your Child to the Library Day and selected the first Saturday in February as the annual day of celebration. The goal of the day is to raise community awareness about the importance of the library in the life of a child.

This will be the third year that the Union Library Company of Hatboro will be participating. We are looking forward to a day filled with fun activities for children of all ages and their families. Built around the theme “It’s ‘Snow’ Much Fun at Your Library”, this year’s event will feature story times on the hour, every hour. There will be crafts, snacks, music, face painting, Lego fun, Wii ‘Just Dance’ and other fabulous activities for the whole family. A scavenger hunt through the library will give children an opportunity to see parts of the building they may not even know exist. Activities will take place from 11-3pm.

This special program is just one of many programs offered for children by the Union Library. Weekly programs include Preschool Storytime, Baby & Me Lapsit and ToddlerTime. Lego Club for children Kindergarten through 5th grade is held the first Thursday of each month at 4pm. We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’ Birthday on March 7th. During National Library Week in April, we will feature programs based on the Pennsylvania’s One Book, Every Young Child 2015 selection. We are looking forward to sharing this year’s selection, ‘Number One Sam’, written and illustrated by Greg Pizzoli, with our youngest library patrons.
