Driver Who Robbed Montco Motorist At Gunpoint Captured: Police

Police said the driver swerved in front of another car, got out, brandished a gun, and demanded the victim turn over her cell phone.

UPPER MORELAND, PA — The man who police said robbed a driver at gunpoint in Upper Moreland on Monday morning has been captured.

The individual taken into custody has not yet been publicly identified by police.

The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. on Feb. 27 on York Road near Davisville Road, and sparked police warnings to the community that put residents on edge.

Police said the suspect was driving a silver Honda Accord "erratically" when he abruptly swerved in front of the victim's vehicle, causing a small crash.

The suspect then got out of his Honda, pointed a black handgun at the victim, and demanded she turn over her cell phone, according to authorities.

The man then fled northbound on Davisville Road.

Police said they were able to capture the suspect in the early morning Tuesday "thanks to a timely tip" from a local resident.

"The Upper Moreland Police Department would like to thank each member of the community who reached out with information and shared the crime alert on their social media platforms," the department said in a statement. "The partnership between the Police Department and the community we serve is invaluable in keeping all those who live in and travel through Upper Moreland Township safe."

Formal charges will be announced shortly. A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
