EASTERN Cosmetology Students Create High Fashion Looks

On July 22, 2014, EASTERN Cosmetology students participated in a competition in which they made their model look like a photo in a fashion magazine. EASTERN administration and staff members walked through the Cosmetology program looking at the styles and the photos which they were modeled after and voted on their top three styles. The top three winning looks were created by Melinda Morgan, an upcoming senior at Hatboro-Horsham High School; Abigail Solomon, an upcoming senior at Cheltenham High School; and Gabrielle Monterosso, an upcoming senior at Abington High School. The EASTERN Cosmetology students who competed are currently working towards the completion of their 1,250 required hours necessary in order to take the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology Exam.

“This competition really gave us a chance to see how well we could imitate a look in a magazine ad,” said first place winner, Melinda Morgan. “The Cosmetology program at EASTERN is preparing us for successful careers in the field, and competitions such as this encourage us to be creative and think strategically.”

EASTERN’s Cosmetology program provides the skills necessary to begin a career in the cosmetology field. In Pennsylvania, as well as other states, cosmetologists and nail technicians must be licensed to practice in the field.

EASTERN is a public school serving students in nine Eastern Montgomery County school districts. Those districts include Abington, Bryn Athyn, Cheltenham, Hatboro-Horsham, Jenkintown, Lower Moreland, Springfield, Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland.
