EASTERN Student Spotlight - Emily Dimant (Cosmetology/Lower Moreland HS)

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Cosmetology/Lower Moreland High School senior, Emily Dimant, is getting a head start on her career as a fashion illustrator and part-time makeup artist.  Her goal is to work with magazines, and to eventually move into Art Direction.  Currently, she has her Nail Technician License, and recently won second place in the SkillsUSA District Nail Care Competition.

When Emily was in 8th grade, she was told about the programs at EASTERN.  She has always loved makeup and wanted to learn how to style hair. She was surprised that Cosmetology at EASTERN was an option for her junior and senior year. Right as she began her program at EASTERN, she secured a job at Barbara G. Cosmetics Makeup Studio and Spa in Southampton.  There she does makeup, reception, and marketing designs for the salon.

Currently, she is volunteering her time to assist the Lower Moreland High School Life Skills program with makeup for their lip-sync show later this month.  She also applies prom makeup for fellow classmates, makeup for various dance competitions, and teaches makeup application. Emily’s Instagram page details much of her work @EmilyDimantMakeUp. She also has a makeup artistry video on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfV9gpUloUo.

“What I really wanted from EASTERN was a background in hair styling.  Thanks to this class, I have mastered the up-do.  Now, when I am hired as a hair and makeup artist, I can easily accept the job,” said Emily.  “Through the Cosmetology program at EASTERN, I have also found that I am really good at men’s haircuts and highlights. If you have a career path, EASTERN can help you find your strengths.”

After graduation from Lower Moreland and completion of her Cosmetology program, she will take her Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology Exam in the summer of 2014.  In the fall, she will begin to pursue her Bachelor of Fine Arts at either Fashion Institute of Technology, University of the Arts, or the College of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Massachusetts.
