Exit Polls Show Solid Wolf Support in Philadelphia Region

Democrat Tom Wolf had solid support in the Philadelphia region during Tuesday’s election for Pennsylvania governor, according to exit polls done by the Associated Press.

Wolf defeated Republican Tom Corbett, the incumbent. With more than 99 percent of districts reporting, Wolf received 55 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

Wolf, a businessman from York County, campaigned on bolstering the economing, restoring education cuts and implementing shale drilling fees.

The AP’s exit poll of 1,716 voters showed voters in the Pittsburgh area also favored Wolf and those in the central part of the state were split between the two candidates.

On specific issues, exit polls show most voters said Corbett’s handling of the Jerry Sandusky scandal didn’t impact their selection for the next governor. Six in 10 voters said the issue wasn’t important to them, according to the AP exit polls.

About 90 percent of voters said they are still concerned about the state of the economy and Wolf led in that category, the AP exit poll found.

Corbett is the only first-term governor to be ousted in Pennsylvania since second terms were allowed four decades ago.
